Hiring a campervan for travel around Scotland is a really popular vacation choice for visitors to the UK. There’s no secret as to why, there are great coastal sceneries, single track roads, wild camping places and plenty of walking spots. Here are some suggested camper van routes that you may enjoy.

Part of camper van travel excitement is that from Scotland you can easily get to the Hebrides, islands that provide great campsites. Glasgow to Oban and then on to one of the main Hebridean islands is a popular route. A 3 hour journey from Glasgow is all it takes to reach Oban. This will allow you to become familiar with the van. Loch Lomand National Park is a real highlight of this first day on the road. Enjoying in the sights, breathing in the fresh air and take the pace of life down a notch or two and you have all the ingredients for a great trip.

One of the larger islands is Mull, a great destination for motorhomers. An abundance of wildlife can be found here. Whales and dolphins are regular visitors to Mull, as well as being home to Golden Eagles and otters. The island is a great place to also get out of the motorhome and take a walk among the peace and quiet of the hills and near deserted bays.

A well known tourist trail is to travel along the Mallaig road towards the camping sites of Arisaig, where you will find plenty to see and do over the next few days. There is no shortage of breathtaking scenery here and is a real bonus for all who travel on this road.

Moving on towards the end of the tour, take the ferry over to the island of Skye, another island with a rich and varied history. There is the famous Tallisker distillery open for visitors on the island and a large number of sights related to the Gaelic history of the place. Leaving Skye, you can head across the bridge back to Glasgow the starting point of our tour.

The journey back to Glasgow is very scenic and one that you will remember for a long time. The scenery is absolutely magnificent, with an impressive display of mountains and abrupt walls. A definite stop for all independent camper van travelers on the way towards Loch Lomond park for the final time. This is a great route for those new to hiring a campervan for their vacation and for those who have yet to take a tour of the Hebridean Islands.
