This article looks at the different tastes that people may have in camping and encourages people to think for themselves when it comes to choosing the ‘best’ place to camp, expressing their own individuality as opposed to just going where everyone recommends, which will not be suitable for everyone.

Campers, it has to be said, are a little like fishermen. Someone always has a better story to you. If you have found the best tents, campsite or the best place to camp in the UK, then they have found the best place to camp in the world, if not the Universe. But there are some great places to camp in the UK and indeed the world, but it depends on what your personal preferences and likes are. What is right for you may not be right for all and vice versa.

You should go for the big campsites if you are more of a social person, here you can mingle with other campers and have fun and enjoy the3 experience together.

The choice of camping tents also can often be bewildering and I will cover this in another article- watch this space!

This might not be a great camping experience for you however. If on the other hand you like the quite life, then go somewhere off the beaten track where you can enjoy the wildlife in isolation and quite.

Commercially run campsites are pretty standard and the good campsites are ones that have the facilities that you want (and doesn’t have the ones that you don’t want).

You need the permission of the owner for a field that is not a designated campsite. It is not possible sometimes to find the owner to ask for permission however.

On any camp site you will get advice from other campers on campsites they would recommend or avoid. When you wake in the morning you may well discover that the great camping spot you set up the previous night might not turn out to be so good.

You need to find out what your tastes are. If someone likes something, it means it is good for them and not necessarily for everyone. Don’t follow the pack, make your own mind up where you camp. Camping is about you as a person and not about just following trends so go your own way and listen to recommendations, but keep a level head, one size does not fit all when it comes to camping.
