Save Money this Summer - Take a Staycation
Subscribe To Our FeedAre you planning on saving some money on this year’s summer vacation? Are you one of those people who have seen the world but never seen your own backyard? If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, you’re a perfect candidate for a “staycation”.
A staycation is just what it sounds like; a vacation where you stay home. Think about how much money you’ll save by not staying at a hotel or even a campground. In addition, you’ll be more comfortable sleeping in your own bed and won’t wake up with those aches and pains that come from sleeping in a strange bed. Finally, you can save even more money by eating at home instead of eating at overpriced restaurants.
When I was a child, my family did a lot of camping. We usually found a campsite at or near a State Park. The parks usually had lakes or swimming pools, playgrounds and other things for us to do. Mom always packed great treats in our wicker picnic basket and nobody was better than my dad with a set of barbecue tools and a grill. These were wonderful trips for our family but thinking back on them now, something seems a little bit strange. We had three State Parks less than an hour from home that we very rarely. These parks were every bit as good as the ones we used to travel to. Well I’m sure the economy was better back in those days. In today’s difficult economic times, I think you should try visiting some State Parks near your home.
I know what some of you are thinking: “this is great for families with children but ours have moved out of the house. What’s a good staycation idea for us?” Did you know that there is at least one winery in every state in the Country? These wineries are usually located in very scenic areas. Most offer tastings and tours for little or no money. Some will let you walk in the grapevines and enjoy the wonderful aroma of the grapes. My favorite part is that a majority have picnic areas or decks and allow you to bring your own food. I’ll bet there’s a winery or two near your home. Grab your wine carrier and visit one on your summer staycation.
I’ve only scratched the tip of the iceberg of staycation ideas. I know you can find many great places to visit in your area. So think about saving some cash this summer and have a fantastic time going on a staycation instead of a vacation.
