Hiking is the one activity that will keep you in shape and allow you to explore the beautiful outdoors, especially with the right hiking and backpacking gear. Hiking keeps you active, offers you a healthier life and you will live longer.  Health is important regardless of age, and many young adults want to stay in shape. By enjoying hiking and other fun activities you will stay healthy no matter what your age. It requires very little fitness for easy trails and you are outside in some beautiful country. If you have reached retirement age and love to travel, include hiking in the national Parks and see nature at its best and stay fit.

Hiking in itself is an excellent way to get a cardiovascular workout which is why you need the right hiking and backpacking gear. You need to take a few supplies and water on your hiking trip. Always have a check up from your doctor, especially if taking medication, or recovering from an illness, before beginning any type of physical activity, including hiking. Hiking is an enjoyment and the added bonuses are that you keep fit and healthy, while enjoying the scenery.  Making sure that you are fit to go hiking, means that you do not plan a trip and once there, be unable to do the task.  Before leaving, start walking to build endurance and make each walk a little longer than the day before.

If you live in an area where walking trails abound, you do not have to go far, for a day of hiking.  These day trips are easy to plan in your area and can be done without spending too much money.  If you are in doubt, check with your doctor to make sure you are up to the challenge.  Once you have the okay from your doctor, you can begin walking around your neighborhood. Once you are confident that you are in good enough shape to tackle a more challenging walking experience, you can plan a day of hiking.  At first, you should plan light hikes with short distances on level terrain.  It is okay to vary the time and distance of each trip, once you are comfortable with going farther and walking across more difficult terrain. Even for one day of hiking you still need the necessary gear such as a hydration pack for hiking.

When you are out hiking, the sounds of Mother Nature are beautiful compared to the sounds of the city and hiking can become very addictive.  The stresses of daily life dissipate while you are walking and it is very therapeutic.  If you enjoy hiking on a regular basis, your body will feel the difference. Your blood pressure becomes lower and the serenity that you feel while hiking is very good for your peace of mind. The enjoyment of hiking maintains your health, while lifting your spirit. So grab your hiking gear backpack and enjoy life.
