There is a wide difference in handling an ordinary child and  a special child that is an extraordinary person making  every minute with the later fruitful by letting her/his claim his disabilities but still welcoming life  as if his ordinary.

Summer camp for special children is a supervised program for teenager or adolescent with special disabilities or handicapped.  This is conducted (usually) during the summer in some countries. Children and adolescents who attend summer camp are known as campers.

Campers in this case are called special children who have special needs:  the mentally and physically challenged, abandoned, socially deprived, street smart, the physically and sexual abused, children with autism, with Down syndrome, with cerebral palsy and children with ADHD.

Volunteers are required to attend a training seminar designed to educate them on children with special needs: their characteristics, attributes, needs, how to handle them, and educating other interested people regarding these aspects.

This enables the volunteer to be exposed to and to be able to witness the kind of campers they will be handling inside the camp. Throughout the year, volunteers also participate in different programs such as activity planning, assessment, exposure trips and outdoors activities, etc. which contribute to their over-all growth and development as volunteers.

This tent camping is a 10 day summer camp for special children. The camp is held in different rural areas every year and children are invited from government and non-government institutions as well as private families. Everyday there is a scheduled activity that special children will have to participate as well as the volunteer attending to her.

Among the activities during the camp are Mardi gras, Cheering Competition, Dance Festival, Arts & Crafts, Special Olympics, Cultural Night, Nature Study, Field Trips, School Setting and other activities that enhance the child’s innate talents, and potentials. Apart from this, volunteers are given a chance to educate the host townspeople on better understanding as regards to children with special needs. The Camp responds to the needs of the special children by educating the people as well as the individual himself.

Special Olympics which are one of the outdoor activities are seen in colourful and large camping tents which provide shelter and covered areas for fun, enjoyment and activities that enhance the motor skills and communication skills of these special children.  During location in rural provinces this tents comes in handy for the reason that there are a lot of activities that this children can do inside the tent.

Mardigras is a cultural dance participated with special children letting them feel part of t by dancing and gyrating to the sound of drums.

Dance Festival are the different dance interpretation that the volunteer and the special child  rehearsed to be seen publicly.

These camps challenges mentally handicapped children to participate into the new activities increasing independence and giving a loving environment in which the volunteer and campers can interact freely.

The primary aim of these camp is to let the campers feel their independence in a supervised way and to let them feel the different activities as normal as possible. Educating the masses as well as the individual is the best way of interaction in the level that both will be rewarded through information.

Camping Tent a must in Camping

Tent is a shelter consisting of fabrics or other materials draped to poles of frame  or supporting to a poles.  Tent ranges from sizes , shape and features. The three basic designs in tents are square, rectangle, and hexagon.

Rectangle and square tents are two pole designs; whereas hexagon tents require three or four poles. Four pole hex designs allow for straighter walls and give more headroom and stability.  Tent  now a days is used as recreational and temporary shelter.

There are 4 basic components to a tent: the poles, the body of the tent, the rain fly and a tarp (ground cloth or footprint to extend the life of a tent’s floor - optional).

Decide on what you will mostly use the tent for and what features you would need based on the type of camping you expect to do. There are many tent features to consider when choosing a tent and all the options available are important.

Why is it important in a camping?  Camping Tent is a must in camping because this is the first line of defence of a camper or volunteer in its outdoor activities as well as shelter and protect you from the elements.  This is the tool to enhance the qualities of the campers to participate more for he she is more equipped. We should always remember that  what we have is not an ordinary children but children which have special needs and it is but natural to expect also that the materials that we should used  come to a company that speaks for itself when it come to producing a calibre Coleman tents.

There are different kinds of camping tents family tents, backpacking tents, hiking tents.  It is a staple material in outdoor activities for it provides cover and protection from elements.  For these reason I made a list or reason why we would like to have a signature brand is called Coleman Tent:

• Outdoor plays for campers are possible because of these tents provide them protection from elements of the sun, wind, rains and sun.

• Tents are movable therefore if there is a change of location it can be easily uprooted to a different location, since a camp changes location this feature is an added point.

• Easy to carry for campers and volunteers this feature is a highlight.

• Lightweight backpacking tents a sure win especially when you need to rushed to activities.

• Adjustable ventilation  is a plus in choosing this kind of tent especially when you are handling special children in the camp who can be easily irritated even with temperature.

• Color coded pole for easy setup which is lesser time consumed which mean add playing time with their schedules.

• A signature or branded tent  has the manufacture names well written on the way its manufactured quality.

• Weather-resistant fabric  give campers and volunteers security  that their tents will not be ruined by any rain showers.

• Protected seams so it will not look so untidy and can be used for a long time.

• Waterproof floors, imagine campers and volunteers not soaked in wet.

• Leak-resistant seams  that any raindrop of water will be seen in the camp.

• User friendly tent that can be easily set-up and up rooted at the same time.

• Zipper protection  so it will not be rusty and stucked.

• Wind strong frame assures campers and volunteer that a hoof in the wind will not lead them to a fallen tent.

The used of camping tents cannot be removed from the scenario of a camp.   For this reason many activities are designed to be used with tents. Such as Arts and & Crafts usually performed in a covered tent. The Arts and Craft provide campers an outlet to show its potential as well as growth in this area.

Cultural Night were campers are coached by their volunteers about the culture of the specific place whether rural or urban places are seen in a large tents performing. Nature Study activities exposed the children to the different natural phenomena inside a wide tent thru pictures and videos.  School Setting and other activities inside the tent which provide educational know how to the campers.

Is there room for my stuff? The size of the tent maybe a biggest decision Are you going to want an air mattress under your sleeping bag?  If weather is an issue, can you easily store your gear inside your tent, protecting it from the outside factors, or is there enough room in your tent to prepare your food in an emergency? And of course, how many people will be occupying the tent?   Volunteers and campers are to be considered in buying a tent or for a bigger crowd the size of the tent should be adjusted accordingly.

Most manufactures list the size of a tent based on the number of people who are sleeping in it. These numbers, though a good base to start, don’t always take into account the height or needs of each person. Tent dimensions, specifically square footage and height, are available by the manufactures. We suggest you look at many floor plans before you make your final decision so that you can be assured you get a tent that fits your needs both now, and down the road.

In purchasing equipment for the outdoors, it is priority for me to buy it in accordance to the needs of mine depending on how fast the manufacturer upgrade their models as well as ho soon will my tent will be obsolete in the market and I have to change it?  But I also based it on the use of tent.

How much will it cost a person to buy a camping tent?  It is said that one should not think of the price but what is the best thing that we are going to get out of it.  And it is better to think of it as an investment than to skimp.  In many cases, one can make a nightmare scenario downright cosy so one should
always look for quality.

How do you rate your preferences?

Rate all your preferences in the order of importance such as: price, size, weight, number of windows, ventilation, number and placement of doors, tent shape, vestibule, sturdiness, ease of set up, color, storage areas, waterproof (floor coating that extends about four to six inches up the sides which prevents the seepage of ground moisture), etc.
