Since a lot of dogs love to be outdoors , you can combine your love for camping and your love for your pooch can be easy with a little preparation and a few easy steps to keep them safe so that the pastime of camping can be enjoyed year around, in many locations .

Temperature, regardless of breed or size, is something k9’s can be sensitive to. When camping with your dog it’s important to make sure you choose a campsite that caters to their requirements. A campsite with plenty of of shade, for example , should be chosen if it is particularly hot outside . On the other hand, choosing a campsite with some exposure to sunshine should be chosen if it’s chilly , so they can stay warm.

One of the joys of camping is sitting around an open fire. However, dogs may unintentionally get too close, so this particular pleasure poses a significant danger. Especially when they are playing. You can wind up chasing a flaming dog if their long tails swish across the flames. That’s not fun.

It’s a smart idea to wear a brightly colored vest, so place one on your dog as well , especially if you’re camping during hunting season, or in and around hunting areas. You wouldn’t want a hunter to mistake your dog for being a deer.

It’s important , if you’re camping in a public camping area, to pay attention to leash laws and to keep your dog close by at all times. Even if you have the best dog in the world, other dogs and people can cause trouble . Not only are fights between dogs scary, but your dog can become seriously hurt.

Even though a leash is not required in an open camping area, it is still important to keep a close watch on your dog. Bears, moose, deer, skunks and other critters can hurt your dog who thinks he’s just having fun.

A first aid kit. When you go camping with your dog, it is essential to always have a first aid kit for your dog.  Take along a first aid kit with the following items:

* Coated aspirin
* Bandages
* Septic powder
* Small nail scissors
* Ear and eye ointment
* Tick tweezers
* Waterproof surgical tape
* Snake bite kit
* Benadryl
* Antibiotic ointment

A long leash and a stake can give your dog some independence around the campsite, and you don’t have to be concerned about them wandering off. Smaller dogs can use portable pens, which function well.

Pack food and treats. To avoid having ants crawl around their dog food and food bowl, it is tempting to feed your dog the food you are eating while camping; however, most of what we eat isn’t right for a dog’s digestion and some of it can be poison. Smores, for instance, are delicious but the chocolate can be toxic to your dog and honestly, they don’t need the sugar. Make sure to feed your dog on its normal schedule, and stick to your dog’s food.

Pack lots of water. Make sure water is accessible to your dog at all times. Water helps keep them cooled down, as it’s easy for them to get overheated. Also, you don’t want your dog lapping out of puddles, rivers or lakes because of algae, which can be toxic not to mention parasites, which are often present in untreated bodies of water.

Take along baggies for waste. It is not natural for dogs to be in that environment, so although it is tempting to let your dog go au natural and leave dog waste on the ground when camping, it is unpleasant for other campers. Make sure you take appropriate materials to tidy up after your dog. Make sure your dog doesn’t get into the waste of other animals, so keep a close eye on them. Dogs have a strong sense of smell and it sometimes gets them into trouble . You certainly don’t want you dog consuming animal waste or rolling in it.

Bedding. This is for comfort, but also for safety. Bedding will help your dog regulate its body temperature at night when it gets cool .

Life jacket. It is important to make sure you have a doggy life jacket if you’re going to be in and around water. Many dogs love to swim but they can become fatigued swiftly and they don’t have the ability to tell us. A simple way to make sure your dog is safe on the water is by using a life jacket.

Flea & tick repellant. Fleas and ticks carry many diseases, as we all know, and they’re prevalent outdoors. You can help protect your dog from insect born illnesses by using a collar, powder, or spray.

Camping can be a wonderful time for both of you, when camping with your pooch . While enjoying being out of doors, your dog will also have the opportunity to explore new areas, experiences and scents.Preparing and packing accordingly can let your dog to have a fun and healthy camping experience.
