Is There Any Camping In Las Vegas ?

There are three words that I never imagined I might ever say in a single sentence : Las Vegas camping.  Somehow the terms just don’t appear to go together very well.  This is probably why I told my partner he was mad when he revealed that he scheduled a Las Vegas camping trip last year.

When most of us consider visiting Vegas, campgrounds aren’t the first thing that comes to mind.  With all of the top Las Vegas hotels available, all of the casinos and shows, many of us never think of this as a destination even if we love being outside.  However, as well as being one of the greatest locations for holiday makers who like to live the high life, Las Vegas is also one of the best places to experience the great outside.  Las Vegas camping is truly top quality.

Of course, Vegas camp grounds vary awfully seriously in quality, so you’ve got to do your homework conscientiously.  Las Vegas camping is only really a smart idea if you are there for something other than the nightlife, casinos and shows. By all means take a trip or two into town but the main reason for camping should be the outdoor attractions that you will find in the area around your campsite. The fact is, if you want good Las Vegas camping at an affordable price, you have to get well outside of the town boundaries.  Otherwise, all you’ll find will be drive-in camping at much higher prices than you actually should have to pay.  The best Las Vegas camping is along one of the streams that flow through the state of Nevada.  As an example, you can kayak below the Hoover dam on the Colorado River.  There’s a profusion of campgrounds in Las Vegas, but unless you have a specific area in mind , or you are looking for a camping holiday that includes a trip to a show or casino then there are much more picturesque places for you to take your holiday.

The rationale for that is that Vegas camping can be a bit coarse.  The weather will invariably be exceedingly hot, and there’s a lack of the cool shady wooded areas that the general public like on their camping trips.  This isn’t to say that you must give up on Vegas camping.  It can have its own rewards, but it isn’t for the faint of heart.  You would do far better camping up in the Northwest if you’re attempting to find a good first out of doors destination.

Spending day after day in the desert could be a actually trying experience for a novice camper.  Vegas camping, of course , needs some of the most careful preparations that you can imagine.  If you are going to go into the desert to camp, you need to bring plenty of water, the right food, and the right clothing.  Keeping cool when doing Las Vegas camping is almost a matter of survival.  If you do not manage to do it, you may lose your strength quickly.  You can be marooned miles and miles from civilization.  Things can get extremely bleak very quickly in the desert, so be forewarned and be prepared.  Some may suggest that you wear long sleeves and relaxed fit slacks to keep the sun off your skin, you may want to put that recommendation aside.  The 1st day of our Las Vegas camping journey was really uncomfortable especially since I was dressed from head to toes.

Wear shorts and a t-shirt.  Trust me.  You may expect to do a large amount of walking during the Las Vegas camping trip and you actually need to keep cool.  Or you might find yourself feeling beat and uncomfortable.

With all the walking involved on a Las Vegas camping excursion you really want to invest in shoes that keep your feet content.  I discovered that my shoes were the elite of the crop and my feet were thanking me even on day one.  Shoes are just some of the most important points to think about when planning your Vegas camping trip.

Don’t forget your sunscreen.  The sun is always shining.  O.K, there is the occasional downpour that comes out of the blue but the rain leaves as quickly as it comes.  I’ve never seen anything like it.  Sunscreen is a must on your Vegas camping vacation.
