Tips on finding the best location for camping.
Before looking for the ideal camp site, you must first find a campground that meets your needs. Fortunately, the Internet has made this task a lot easier and many campgrounds now have websites. You can obtain information about various camping areas by visiting their websites prior to your stay; this gives you the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding which facility to choose.
Please remember, campsites can look a tad more glorified than they really are, much like pictures in a menu at restaurants.
Before you choose your campsite you need to take into consideration what kind of camping you want to do. When a campground offers “primitive camping”, it sounds intriguing, but what does that actually mean?
When you visit a campground that’s labeled primitive, it’s critical to pack all of your essential supplies. This includes all shelter, gear, and any additional provisions. Primitive campsites are usually deep in the wilderness where you will not find electricity, water, showers, or even pit toilets.
At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll come across campgrounds that provide connections for water, sewage, and electricity - all with a glorious natural backdrop. Some campgrounds even have spas!
In between these two extremes however you’ll find the bulk of camp grounds. Camping in private parks usually includes all the amenities you could possibly desire. Many campgrounds welcome long-term guests since they offer laundry facilities, arcades and shops. The majority of private parks will also organize activities like bingo games, or have fun and/or competitive activities for children.
Fees for the Campground
Fees are usually higher at private parks as opposed to those charged at public camping facilities. Some state parks have very minimal, rustic campgrounds while accommodations in others are fairly luxurious. Some of them offer electric, swimming pools, warm showers, toilet facilities, laundry rooms, areas for the children to play in, guided tours, etc.
State and national forest parks are normally fairly basic. You will probably find fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets. One of the great things about camping in state or national parks is that it can be extremely affordable as many sites are free or cost just a few dollars a day.
Campgrounds do fill up early during nice weather.
Note that during nice weather people tend to settle in early. It’s important to arrive early (and bring a little luck) if you wish to snag the most desired spots.
Would you want a location by the swimming pool and children’s playground? That will be a wonderful convenience for the children but at the same time it could be a noisy location with a lot of foot traffic to contend with. The same holds true for sites located near showers or bathrooms. People will probably be tramping by your tent around the clock.
Are you someone who needs the sounds of a noisy city or do you prefer a more quiet setting? With all that camping has to offer there is sure to be something for everyone and you will find a campground that is perfect for you and your family.
