Whilst many people have completed some remarkable expeditions there are the people that carved the path for them to walk in the first place. You won’t find many people undertaking these kinds of expeditions. Most first expeditions were made long before proper camping equipment was around to help the travellers survive.
It is now easier to make some of the expeditions that have occurred in history. Thanks to additional equipment such as sleeping bags, more comfortable rucksacks and better protective clothing people are much better protected when going on expeditions.
People have been all around the world and some have even left the planet. For people that like to do things that not many others have done before you can always sign up for some arctic courses to learn everything you need to be able to travel to Antarctica. If you want to try some adventurous winter activities then why not try some nordic skiing.
There are many other activities that you can take part in as part of an expedition in the summer as well. Some popular and fun expeditions include white water rafting and canoeing expeditions.
Sir Edmund Hillary made the first successful Everest expedition. Born in New Zealand in the early 20th century and was part of a two man team who successfully climbed Everest in 1953.
Credited with discovering the New World, Christopher Columbus was in fact looking for Asia but instead ended up in what today is known as the Caribbean. This includes the Caribbean islands, which were his first point of contact with this continent.
Probably the most exciting expedition in history. This very rare expedition is of course the moon landing where Neil Armstrong became the first man in history to touch down of the surface of the moon. Guided by literally hundreds of flight controllers the famous astronauts of the Apollo 11 spacecraft were able to safely touch down on the moon and make space history.
