Camping Tent Material

The camping tent comes in different shapes and sizes. It is usually used to shelter a person or persons from elements while out camping. There are also various camping tent materials that range from the ordinary to the state of the art. The kind of camping tent material can dictate just how sheltered one can be while out camping.

A camping tent can house just one person and be as light as can be or be able to accommodate some ten to fifteen people.  Many of the bigger tents have partitions that serve as rooms or storage areas if there are a lot of people occupying it. A camping tent actually serves to shelter and protect the person or things inside from the sun, the rain, the wind and other elements that may come up during a camping trip. A family camping tent needs to be big enough to accommodate the entire family along with some of their belongings.

Fabric Or Material For A Camping Tent

Nylon is the most common material used for a camping tent. There are certain kinds of nylon that are really quite light and versatile enough to be coated with protection to make them virtually waterproof. Nylon is also a durable material which can withstand being exposed to the sun, the rain and the wind as well as other harsh elements. Even without the accompaniment of the coating some nylon materials can stay waterproof for a period of time.

Canvas is other material that can be used for a camping tent. This material is not as light as nylon but it can handle emergency situations at the time of camping. Canvas is durable and can withstand exposure to strong winds and the sun. Exposure to rain may need some coating to make it waterproof or be able to be leak proof. Canvas can also keep people quite warm and toasty inside it especially during the colder months but does not allow much ventilation or breathing. This means that the camping tent can become warm enough to be uncomfortable.

Neoprene is another camping tent material that has been used for some time now but has not been as successful as nylon. The reason for limiting this material is that it can be extremely hot under the sun and it does not function well into water. Neoprene is also quite bulky and heavy to carry around. These factors bounds the use of this material for tents.
